My success is the knowledge that I received being a part of the first cohort of women that were and are serious about their own health and the issues that are real for all of us.

I gained so much nutritional information which was the part of my daily life that I never took seriously.  Before Nway, I did exercise, but not with the intensity that I needed to; I always felt I was in pretty good cardio shape, but my weight was not moving OFF.  When being a part of NEWAY I kept track of everything I put into my mouth and became very particular about what was worth its nutritional value and calories. I learned about balance in my diet and foods to avoid.  I learned that this is not a diet but a lifestyle.  I learned that I can do this

I have also learned that there are seasons in our lives as well, changes that do affect our lifestyle, but it is never too late to start again and do the right thing.  I have the nutritional program on my computer and am able to track my diet when I need to.  I have the resources and the newsletters in a binder to give me hope and direction when I need it.  I know that the plan works and is good for me.  I will never forget how good it felt to shed 20+ pounds of un needed fat on my body.  Even if some is back on my hips now, I am not discouraged and I know what to do.

All things are possible, AMEN-

I was friends with Carol Okopal for several years, so I was most excited when she told me she was finally exercising on a regular basis. She had a trainer at work and by all accounts was working out pretty hard at least 3 days a week. Six months later when I saw her again, she didn’t look good. She looked AMAZING! She was working out with a trainer named Barb Croce and had started following Barb’s NEWAY plan for eating.  Well, I worked out really hard too, but I certainly looked nowhere near amazing. I looked okay. I was eating as “cleanly” as possible and exercising 5-6 times a week. But, I had this layer of fat on me that would not go away. I decided I needed her trainer. I went to a few classes with Barb Croce and they were fantastic, but I had already been working out just as hard on my own. Why didn’t I look anywhere as good as Carol?  That’s when it snapped in my brain. Something was wrong with my eating, but I just couldn’t figure it out on my own. Each year 2-3 pounds were staying on my body and I had climbed to 135 from a low of 122 since 2004.  And I teach nutrition and exercise!  Yeah, I know what you are thinking. Don’t tell me that it’s hormonal! That wasn’t going to fly. I wanted someone in the same age group as me, going through the same changes as me to help. Barb is the same age as me, only off by a month or so. (I really didn’t want a 20 year old telling me how to eat.)  I signed up for Barb’s NEWAY class. I also called 5 friends to join, simply because I wanted to surround myself with people who hung out with me and we could all work together and encourage each other through this process.  Barb admitted she was hesitant to take me as a student. She told me that I already knew so much about nutrition, that she would ask me to suspend my belief system and just trust her for 6 weeks. Honestly, she shouldn’t have had to worry. She had a plan that was working and mine was not.  She supplied us with a computer program to enter our daily food intake. That alone was worth the price of admission. I instantly saw that I was putting in much more food than I had ever imagined. Then we started the classes. In the information she gave us, there was nothing she said that I could dispute even if I had I wanted to do so. She actually reminded me of many things I had forgotten. She gave us quantities and guidelines and we proceeded to follow them.I will admit one thing, it did take me a little longer to catch on than the others in my class. Some of that centers around my job which does not give me clear breaks to pay attention to an eating schedule. It took me about 5 weeks to figure it out. I did eventually catch on and the results were terrific. Now you can see the muscles that I exercised so hard to have.  Why do I care so much about that? One of my jobs is teaching a sports chiropractic technique in which I am required to wear camisoles and compression shorts for 4 days and students have to locate the muscles on me. Do I look AMAZING? No, Carol does. But with me, let’s just say the students can now find what they need and I don’t feel so self-conscious about them poking and prodding.  Can I keep the weight off? Well, if I continue to enter the food I eat into the program, absolutely. If I don’t, after a few days, I can get sloppy with my eating. Please keep in mind, this is not a diet. It is a way of life. Do not commit to this program for 6 weeks. Commit to making the changes in your life that you will need as you age to stay healthy. In this manner, Barb Croce will teach you the way to find true success.

Wanting to lose weight for my son’s wedding, I investigated different resources, including joining a weight loss program such as Weight Watcher’s, Dr. Bob’s Weight Loss, LA Weight Loss and NEWAY™. The two alternatives I seriously considered were to either decrease eating and increase exercise on my own, or be happy as I am and not change anything, but the fear of being a “FAT MOTHER” in my son’s wedding pictures caused me to choose wisely. I finally went with NEWAY™, because the program was referred to me by close friends who knew what they were talking about. They said that NEWAY™ would teach me about nutrition and allow me to develop a sensible way of eating and exercising while achieving my goal of a 15 pound loss by August 2nd. Besides, the investment was reasonable and there were no extra expenses for special food. Somewhat nervous, I met with the creator of N.E.W.A.Y, Barbara Croce. She did a nutritional assessment on me and analyzed my body fat. Barbara created a program specific for me, and we met in a group setting once a week for six weeks, while being in daily contact with Barbara, receiving NEWAY™ approved recipes that we could cook using normal foods. The pedometer challenge caused me to discover that I love walking. This is the healthiest and most productive program that I have ever worked with. Not only did I achieve the weight loss goal by my son’s wedding, but I am still continuing to lose weight at a healthy pace. In addition, my health has improved tremendously. Just the clarity in daily work activities alone is amazing. The compliments that I receive daily are a real boost to keep going. This program teaches you not only how to eat, but why you should make the choices that you make. Believe it or not, coworkers of mine who are thin are starting the program so that they can become healthy and get rid of the “fog” they are in during the day. I highly recommend this program to anyone who wants to make their life better!

Barb has done a wonderful job of taking complicated nutrition and physiological information and making it easy to understand for the average person.  She has created “bite-size” chunks of nutrition information that can be easily assimilated into new daily habits. Barb has actually gone through her program herself and knows what it takes to successfully change bad habits into good ones. The group support and accountability is an excellent format for recognizing negative, self-defeating behaviors while considering new healthier behaviors. Her program is simple, encouraging and will help anyone willing to learn to eat wisely , potentially lose excess weight and more importantly, increase the nutrient density of his/her diet.  I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the small group of women for six weeks. I learned new strategies for my daily diet and was motivated to add some exercise to my daily routine as well. No excuses!

Since I began working out with Barb approximately a year ago, I feel that I am in better physical condition than I have ever been.  My core strength has improved greatly, and my confidence during my workouts is so much better than it ever was.  I really enjoy working out when I am with Barb, and I actually look forward to my weekly sessions!  I don’t let anything get in the way of my workouts – I protect them fiercely!

I have also benefited so much from the NEWAY program that Barb started.  I eat better food, I feel better, and losing weight has been easier than it has ever been in my life. I am able to maintain my weight easier, too.  I have noticed that my weight does not fluctuate wildly like it used to.  I would get so depressed seeing my weight go up 4 pounds, then down 2, then back up 3, then down 4.  With the NEWAY lifestyle, my weight stays the same or goes down. Eating better food, and serving better food to my family, really makes me happy.

I know that not everyone can workout with Barb, but everyone can try the NEWAY program.  I really recommend it.

My Monday workouts with Barb...

I'm very fortunate to have an opportunity to train/work out with Barb on Monday mornings where I work.  I knew Barb before I started my program with her and she was aware of some of the health problems I was experiencing and suffering with at times.

I recently had a severe bursitis condition in my right thigh, hip and eventually into my sacroiliac joint that was quite painful to the point of keeping me from my daily routines.  This eventually triggered my body to develop my fibromyalgia condition that I was diagnosed with a year ago.  Because of this condition, my joints and muscles can become very painful, and the flare ups that I often experience really affect my day-to-day living.

Since I have been training with Barb for over a year now at even only one session per week, I have felt much stronger, and most of my health problems associated with the fibromyalgia have lessened greatly.  I've noticed other differences as well, like the capris that I couldn't fit into last summer now fit...  I have more strength in my arms to help my husband lift our canoe up onto and off of our Jeep...  I can ride my bike further...  My shoulder is no longer experiencing pain...  My list goes on and on, and I discover more and more improvements as the months go by.  And although I know I will always have to deal with my fibromyalgia symptoms, Barb is a very important part of my ongoing progress.  Not only does she help me physically, but she has become a friend to share many of my happy times.  I thank God for her knowledge and abilities to help me, and also for the newfound friendship we have developed.

I asked Barb one day in June two years ago if maybe I could be one of her clients, and she said, "Only if you are serious about it, Marian."  I told her I was, and I started going to her home twice od week not knowing that I would take part in some of the most grueling work I have ever done.  She's good at what she does!  She works me hard, and when I complain and say I can't do it, she says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!"

What Barb has done for me in the past two years is nothing short of miraculous!  My body is so much stronger and healthier, and my mental and spiritual attitudes have improved.  I still have a bit farther to go to get the rest of the weight off, and will Barb's guidance it will happen.  When I start to let my eating get out of control, she makes a pact with me to cut some dangerous food out of my diet.  And when you shake hands with Barb on something, believe me, you stay committed to it!  I would never want to let her down.

I don't think I ever want to give up my workout sessions with Barb.
