Food Awareness

Most people underestimate how much they eat and overestimate how much they exercise.  We very much are what we eat; can't expect the body of a marathon runner if we eat donuts all day and drink alcohol all night!

Food awareness is such a simple concept that can revolutionize your life.  Do you take the time to think about what goes in your mouth?  Do you know what's great for you, not so great, and not desirable?  The Scriptures say that "all things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable; all things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything." 1 Corinthians 6:12

I teach my clients the value of keeping a food diary just to become aware of their dietary intake.  For those who have a weight management issue, I have created N.E.W.A.Y. and you can find out more about it by clicking on the N.E.W.A.Y. link.

Balanced Nutrition

Carbohydrates, Protein and Fats... all good for you.  But how much do you need, and when, and which kind?  That's when some people make this so very difficult.  But it isn't really.

At its most basic level, balanced nutrition has to do with a colorful plate.  That's a pretty good way of insuring you have a healthy meal.  If you want to be a little more scientific about it, you should eat 60% of your calories in carbohydrates, 15 % in protein and 25 % in fats.  Then, you can break it down a bit more with which kinds of carbohydrates, fats and protein. Look for my weekly Fit U Tips to learn more about these.

Bottom line: be balanced.  Too much of a good thing is too much.  Enjoy food reasonably, and make a colorful plate!

Check out the N.E.W.A.Y. link for weight management that deals in part with nutrition, but also with all the other reasons why many of us are overweight.

Choices

What I put in my mouth affects what I see in the mirror, but also what both my heart and head declare to me about myself.  It's not that I can't eat certain things; it has more to do with the freedom I have to make wise choices.

I choose life over the short lived enjoyment of overindulgment of food.
